Starlight

Lights twinkled in the atmosphere.  Little blinks of varying shades pulsed ever so slightly beyond the train of slowly passing clouds.

Sarah lay on her trampoline... Watching, waiting, wishing.

She wished to have enough time to find the right place to grow up.Her feet and pants had been marked black as though she'd been playing on a giant crayon.

The sky was purple that night. Sarah wondered how the sky chose what color it would be.
It was so easy for the sky to change but change for Sarah was never easy.

She stood to her feet and dusted her jeans. With bent knees, Sarah bounced. She looked up as the sky zoomed in with her ascent and zoomed out as she came back down.

In the summer she'd play with the scorpion. In the winter she'd play with the hunter. The stars rolled with every season, but  year after year, it never changed.

The cosmos. The beautiful beyond. That is where Sarah wanted to be.

She jumped higher... Watching, waiting, wishing... and slipped, stumbling to her knees nearly falling off as she moved away from the center.

Sarah lay on her trampoline, staring back into the stars...Watching, waiting, wishing.

She stood to her feet and dusted her jeans. With bent knees, Sarah bounced. She looked up as the sky zoomed in with her ascent and zoomed out as she came back down.

She saw the sky grow and shrink... Grow and shrink... Grow and shrink... with every bound.

She found her hop had gained some height. She closed her eyes tight. Following a continuous path upward... Wanting, waiting, wishing.

When she opened her eyes, she saw the sky grow, and grow, and grow.

The shrinking... the falling... never came.

And through the night Sarah traveled up into the stars, never coming down... Happy her wish came true.
